East Asian Language Programs

Courses:  Click on the language above to access more information regarding each language program.  In addition to coursework, most courses offer students cultural activities, such as preparation of authentic meals, opportunities for discussions with native speakers, film festivals, and field trips.  Course descriptions and classroom locations can be found in the Registrar’s website under Courses.

Students:  East Asian Language courses are open to all registered Harvard students.  If you are not a Harvard student, check with your university for cross-registration options, or contact the Harvard Division of Continuing Education for East Asian Languages courses.  No auditors allowed in any East Asian Language course.

Bryant StreetPlacement Test:  Students wanting to begin their language studies at Harvard above the elementary level must take a placement exam.  These exams are posted in late summer and January.  Students should speak to their advisor for information on Advance Placement, and meeting their language requirements.

Language Citations:  Students wishing to receive a Language Citation in an East Asian Language may check on this link, but should also refer to the Handbook for Students for more information.

Positions:  Openings will be posted here as they become available.  We accept applications for open positions by the deadline listed in the position positing.  Letters of recommendation should be sent under separate cover in a confidential manner.  We regret we cannot accept emailed applications.
